Course Information
This Hydrogen Sulphide H2S emergency awareness and response course is an introduction for any worker required to understand the equipment and safety procedures when working with or near this deadly gas. The course also includes the basics of H2S hazard assessment, emergency response plans. The course will also cover the introduction to the hierarchy of hazard of controls. This system helps with the ranking of the methods used to control hazards. Related to H2S, this system is designed to first eliminate this gas before implementing a series of engineering and administrative controls to reduce danger in work area.
Please Note: This program is not equivalent to the in-classroom Energy Safety Canada H2S Alive course.
About H2S
H2S gas is a toxic gas that is heavier than air and has a rotten egg smell. The gas is flammable and corrosive once in contact with moisture. This makes the gas especially dangerous when exposed to the skin, eyes and lungs. With high concentrations of exposure, this can long-term health effects. In addition, this gas is also one of the most explosive naturally occurring compounds found on a jobsite. However, the most common danger presented by H2S is its extreme toxicity. For these reasons, extreme safety precautions need to be in place when working with or near this gas.
