Course Overview
The Red Cross Psychological First Aid Instructor training program is a two-day in-class program aimed at developing instructor candidates to teach and facilitate the Red Cross Psychological First Aid (PFA) program. Launched in 2018, the new PFA program aims to provide learners will skills and techniques to provide care to people suffering from mental health, emotional, psychological or social wellness issues using the life circle model known as Look, Listen, Link, Live. This unique program helps learners to identify signs of stress, trauma or grief and to apply techniques for self-care or for care for others. The Red Cross standards require that two facilitators be present when delivering the program due to the sensitivity of the topics which may trigger emotional reactions in participants. Facilitation methodologies involve a highly learner-centred environment through case-based learning. Instructor candidates learn to deliver the program to fully engage participants while providing a positive and safe learning environment. Prerequisites for the PFA instructor program are:
- Fundamentals of instruction online modules and in-class session
- Completion of the participant level PFA program
- Standard First Aid with CPR level C
