At a first glance, holding a first aid and CPR course at a Brampton supermarket seems like an odd location. But on the contrary, this supermarket is the perfect place to run our WSIB approved Red Cross training classes.
SOS First Aid runs courses 3 to 4 times per month at the Fortinos Supermarket at 35 Worthington Ave. in Brampton, Ontario. Brampton is the 9th largest Canadian municipality with a population exceeding half a million people, according to the 2011 census, and many of its residents require first aid training for school or work. Our classes are very popular at Fortinos and here’s why:
1) Spacious, clean and convenient facilities.
The supermarket is conveniently located on Bovaird just west of Chinguacousy and is accessible by car and public transportation. SOS first aid has been offering emergency response training at the Fortinos Brisdale since 2011 and residents know we offer courses here. There are two spacious community rooms, providing plenty of room for students to do hands on training, like CPR on manikins and bandaging and slinging. Students do a lot of work on the floor so instructors and students appreciate that the floors are washed every day.
2) Community-minded organization and now a client.
“We love being associated with the Fortinos facilities,” adds founder Velma Ganassini. “The company is very community-minded. Brisdale’s community room coordinator Annie is involved in many charitable and worthwhile initiatives. The organization does a lot of good for the local community.” Fortinos is a long-time Ontario company that is part of Loblaw Companies Limited. Loblaw recently became a client of the Canadian Red Cross Major Accounts Solutions (MAS). As a result, SOS First Aid, provider for the MAS accounts, has the pleasure of training many Loblaw employees who work and live in the communities of Peel and Halton.
3) Free food!
Can you believe a free lunch is provided? There is no added cost for the food SOS provides at Fortinos and participants are always thrilled with the quality, often preferring this location over our other locations because of the food alone. Fortinos delivers delicious, prepared food right to the community room at conveniently scheduled breaks. For lunch, we often order Fortinos pane fresco pizza and gourmet sandwiches with salad and fresh fruit.
SOS First Aid also has locations in Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington and Stoney Creek. Regardless of the location, the quality of instruction remains consistent. Instructors are very engaging and use a variety of training techniques to reach all learner types.
Our programs are taught in easy-to-follow steps, allowing graduates to act on, prevent, and manage life’s emergencies wherever they may occur. Instruction is hands-on and interactive and is supported by a variety of training materials, including CPR mannequins, AED trainers, bandages and splinting materials, barrier devices, auto-injector trainers, inhalers, and more.
