Meet Shadow: Our New Puppy Wellness Manager
On March 13th, SOS First Aid welcomed a new wellness manager to the team… Shadow! Now, before you imagine a human in a business suit, we should clarify: Shadow isn’t a person. Shadow is a puppy.
As spring arrives and the snow melts, we notice that in our neighborhood, streets and parks are filled with energetic puppies exploring their world. Their oversized paws, not quite yet fitting their bodies, those waggly tails, and their goofy waddles are adorable!! But they also remind us that puppies are curious, clumsy, and lack opposable thumbs. Instead of picking things up with their paws, they use their mouths to investigate, which can lead to choking, cuts, scrapes, and sometimes more serious injuries.
Our first wellness manager, Arrow (the OG), a wise and experienced dog has taken Shadow under her paw. Arrow will guide Shadow through a long teaching process, showing the newest team member the ropes of wellness and safety and First Aid Training. Watching Arrow mentor Shadow is a reminder that caring for pets takes patience, knowledge, and preparation especially when it comes to handling emergencies.
That’s why we encourage pet first aid training. One great way to get started is the Canadian Red Cross “First Aid for Dogs and Cats” online course. This course equips pet owners and aspiring pet care professionals with essential skills to respond to common emergencies involving cats and dogs.
